Student Respect & Empowerment Office

Here to help students understand their rights and navigate university processes with representation and respect.

About the Office

The Student Respect and Empowerment Office (SREO) is a dedicated branch of the UWSA that provides advocacy, guidance, and representation for all undergraduate and professional students, including those in law, medicine, and education. The office supports students navigating charges or concerns related to both academic misconduct (such as plagiarism or cheating, etc.) and non-academic misconduct, which may include behavioural code of conduct violations, student-to-student conflicts, complaints involving faculty and staff, and more. Beyond misconduct cases, the SREO assists students in their interactions with university services, therefore ensuring that students understand their rights and have access to the resources they need. Some of the services we provide are:

Services the SREO may provide are not limited to:

  • Supporting students through the process of charges, complaints, hearings, and appeals for academic and non-academic misconduct.

  • Advocacy and representation in hearings, appeals, and sanction processes.

  • Mediation and resolution of faculty-student or student-student conflicts.

  • Advising students on their rights and responsibilities within university policies.

  • Addressing and mitigating student complaints against faculty or staff.

  • Providing referrals to additional supports, resources, and services.

  • Assisting students in navigating sanctions and outcomes.

Whether it means helping you access resources, or being your defense advocate through the misconduct charges and complaints process, the SREO coordinator is here to support students

  • It depends what kind of case you’ve got. If it’s a complaint about a professor, you have the option to contact the department head of the professor’s faculty. If it’s a matter of non-academic misconduct, or a complaint about another student, you can contact the non-academic misconduct intake coordinator, adebobye@uwindsor.ca. If these don’t apply to your case, you can also try reaching out to the Office of Student Experience, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, or the Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility.
