Vice President Student Advocacy

I am a biology student who has served in residence, on Senate, and across multiple campus organizations. I bring a systems-level perspective to student governance. I understand how decisions are made, and how they impact students long after meetings end.
My experience in residence has grounded me in the everyday realities students face, from academic pressure to accessibility and mental health concerns. Serving on Senate has provided direct insight into academic policy, institutional governance, and the ways student voices can meaningfully influence decision-making when they are informed and organized. Additionally, my leadership roles within multiple student organizations have allowed me to engage directly with students across campus, understand the nuances of daily campus life, and develop the skills necessary to lead collaboratively and effectively.
These roles have shaped the way I approach advocacy. I believe effective representation requires preparation, follow-through, and clear communication back to students. Governance should not feel distant or unclear — students deserve transparency in how policies are developed and how their concerns are addressed.
I would bring a perspective rooted in structure, accountability, and accessibility. My goal is to ensure students are consulted before major decisions are made, that concerns raised are tracked and followed up on, and that advocacy is both responsive and informed.
Students should feel represented by someone who understands the system, works collaboratively, and is committed to making student voice an active part of governance, not an afterthought.

Students are facing confusion around academic policies, limited awareness of support services, and frustration when concerns feel unheard. I care most about making advocacy more accessible, structured, and responsive.
As VP Student Advocacy, I will focus on three priorities. First, I will advocate for clearer communication of academic policies, including grading breakdowns, appeals, and accommodation processes. Students should not feel lost during already stressful situations.
Second, I will strengthen student voice by hosting weekly open-door office hours and implementing a centralized advocacy intake system so concerns can be documented and formally raised in governance meetings.
Third, I will work to improve coordination and visibility of existing service centres so students know where to go and what to expect when seeking support.
I will raise concerns directly in Senate and UWSA meetings, track recurring issues, and push for practical improvements that are realistic and measurable.

Accountability begins with communication. If elected, I will provide regular, student-friendly updates outlining what concerns are being raised and what progress is being made. Advocacy should not feel distant or behind closed doors.
I will actively seek student input through weekly open-door office hours and a year-round advocacy intake form. Documenting and tracking concerns ensures issues are not lost and allows patterns to be identified and addressed formally.
Transparency also means being honest about what can and cannot be changed. I will advocate firmly while ensuring decisions remain fair, ethical, and in students’ best interests. My commitment to timely responses reflects my belief that leadership should feel accessible.
Fair decision-making requires listening first, understanding the broader impact of policies, and ensuring student voices are present in every discussion.

Student governance plays a critical role in shaping policies, services, and the overall student experience. It should serve as both a voice and a bridge — ensuring student concerns are brought directly into institutional conversations.
Effective student leadership is prepared, responsive, and grounded in service. It requires understanding governance structures while remaining accessible to the students those structures impact.
I am motivated to run because I have seen how overwhelming university systems can feel when communication is unclear or support feels distant. Students deserve advocacy that responds and follows through.
Through Structure, Student Voice, and Service, I hope to contribute leadership that is steady, transparent, and committed to ensuring every student feels heard.
