Faculty of Nursing Director

Lisa Chemali

  • As a nursing student seeking the role of Nursing Representative, I would bring a perspective grounded in advocacy, community involvement, and strong communication. I am deeply connected to my community through volunteer work, which has strengthened my ability to listen, empathize, and respond to the needs of others. These experiences have taught me the value of inclusivity and ensuring that everyone feels seen and heard. My previous experience as a student trustee gave me the opportunity to represent over 5,000 students and advocate for their needs at the board level. In that role, I learned how to gather student feedback, communicate concerns effectively, and work with leadership to create meaningful change. This experience shaped my confidence and ability to represent a large and diverse student body. Students should feel represented by me because I am approachable, dedicated, and committed to taking action. I will actively seek out student feedback, communicate transparently, and advocate for both academic success and student well being. My goal is to ensure that every nursing student feels supported, valued, and confident that their voice matters.

  • As a candidate for Nursing Representative, the issue I care most about is student life and fostering a stronger sense of community within the nursing program. Nursing can be academically intense and time consuming, especially with clinical placements, which can make it difficult for students to feel connected to their peers and the broader campus community. If elected, I would advocate for more opportunities that strengthen cohort connection, such as low cost social events, peer bonding activities, and increased collaboration between year levels. Creating space for students to build relationships can improve morale, reduce stress, and make the program feel more supportive and inclusive. I would also work to ensure nursing students are aware of campus events and UWSA initiatives, and explore ways to make participation more accessible around clinical schedules. Strong communication and engagement can help students feel like active members of the university community. By gathering feedback and working collaboratively with UWSA and faculty, I would aim to enhance student life in a positive and solutions focused way, helping nursing students feel connected, balanced, and proud of their program.

  • As a Nursing Representative, I would maintain regular communication with nursing students and provide clear updates on events at UWSA and within the Faculty in order to approach accountability, transparency, and equitable decision making. Whenever possible, I would use brief announcements in class, email summaries, and frequent updates on social media to keep students informed. Following meetings, I would summarize important points, discuss how choices impact nursing students, and suggest any next steps. Students have a right to know how their issues are being addressed. To seek input, I would create simple feedback forms, host check ins, and of course encourage students to reach out directly. To ensure decisions are fair and ethical, I would base my role on student feedback, program standards, and equity considerations. I would advocate respectfully, ask questions when information is unclear, and always prioritize the academic success, well being, and professional development of the students in the nursing program.

  • Student governance should play an active and meaningful role in shaping the student experience at the University of Windsor. It should serve as a bridge between students and administration, ensuring that policies, academic decisions, and campus initiatives reflect the real experiences of students, especially those in demanding programs like Nursing.Effective student leadership means listening first, communicating clearly, and advocating confidently. It is about representing diverse perspectives, asking thoughtful questions, and working collaboratively to find practical solutions. Leadership should be approachable, informed, and focused on creating positive change rather than holding a title.I am motivated to run for Nursing Representative because I want nursing students to feel heard and supported. Our program is rigorous, with clinical placements, heavy workloads, and high expectations. I hope to contribute by bringing forward student concerns, encouraging open dialogue, and helping strengthen the connection between nursing students and UWSA. I want to be part of building a student experience that is supportive, inclusive, and empowering.
