Student Senate Representative

  • Student Governance is an important part of every single campus, but specifically important right now! As you all may know, the education system is currently facing many issues with decreased OSAP and many other issues that students are facing on a day to day. Through my experience as Vice-President Finance & Operations of the UWSA, I have been able to advocate for all students wants and needs. Whether this was on the provincial level, against Bill 33, or even on a campus wide level when facing several issues with regards to the UPass program and advocating for your wants and needs! While I am a Behaviour, Cognition, and Neuroscience student who typically takes Science and FAHSS courses, I have also taken and experienced the concerns of students in several other faculties. An example of this has been navigating ZBB and supporting several societies through understanding these changes and what that means for their students. Overall, I pride myself in being an advocate for all students and will work hard to ensure your needs are met. No student should ever have to feel unheard on campus.

  • A huge concern students are facing right now is the decrease in OSAP and increase in tuition. Students are already facing so many hardships with the stress of classes and many other financial barriers that they are currently experiencing. These issues are not a solution for the current deficit that many schools are experiencing. It is never and will never be acceptable to shift these pressures on to students. I will ensure to continuously advocate for this through my role as Student Senator for the UWSA. There is no point in time where students nor the governing student body should remain quiet during these times. Furthermore, I would like to propose that more professors be held accountable for mediocre teaching. As students and the future of the current working world, we deserve quality education. This includes professors who care. My goal is to encourage reviews to be conducted on professors and further encourage the consideration of mental health. Mental health is a real thing that people are experiencing each and every day. Unfortunately, most of this is caused by school induced stress. My goal is to advocate for more time between exams and a better overall learning environment where all students can thrive in their own way!

  • The current issue that I have found with the UWSA is that no one understands the depth and the work that goes into the organization. There is a lack of understanding of exactly what the organization does. My goal is to first ensure that all students are informed on what the UWSA truly is, its pillars (representation, service, and advocacy), as well as, all the amazing services they offer! The UWSA is home to 7 service centers and over 200 student groups! This should be something that each student is knowledgeable about and should know is there to help them thrive! I would next promote transparency. I would do this through continually recommending that Board Meeting Minutes be published on the Instagram and that each and every decision be announced so that students know exactly where their money is going and how their elected student representatives are contributing. To promote accountability, I would hope to conduct surveys on how students feel about the decisions made at the UWSA, as well as, during Senate. My job is to represent YOU! I want to be your voice not just at the UWSA level, but also at the University level.

  • I believe that an effective student leader is someone who listens. My goal as Student Senator is to be your voice. When I am walking into a board room, I am not there to represent myself, but rather the 11,000 undergraduate students on campus. My hope is to have a running question box where I can address specific concerns that some students may have about the policies and procedures of the UWSA and of the University of Windsor, as well as, host office hours. I want to be your voice. During my time as VPFO, I heard a lot of concerns about several aspects of the UWSA and the University. I am hoping to continue to tackle any concerns that you have had as a student and make your overall experience enjoyable, fun, but more importantly, valuable.
