Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Director

Marina Aise

  • My name is Marina Aise, and I am a second-year Law and Politics student in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Windsor. I am running for FAHSS Representative because I believe that student governance should be effective, accountable, and grounded in real student experience.

As the current Social Science Representative for SAHSS, I have had the opportunity to work directly with students, bringing forward concerns about academics, communication, and the overall student experience. This role has taught me that representation is about creating spaces for honest conversations to ensure that student voices are not just acknowledged but acted on.

Beyond this role, I am currently serving as Vice President of UWindsor's Paws for Cause, and Vice President for the Suraya Student Society. Being involved in different spaces on campus has helped me connect with students from a variety of backgrounds and programs. It's shown me that while our experiences may differ, we all want to feel supported and confident in the education we're receiving. If elected, I plan to listen to your needs and concerns, communicate with transparency, and advocate for the academic and personal success of FAHSS students.

  • There are many issues facing students, and I believe we must advocate for improvement. Some current concerns that have been consistently voiced are student funding and affordability, as well as mental health support. Financial pressures affect many students’ ability to focus on academics and fully engage in campus life. At the same time, accessible mental health services are necessary for student success and well-being.

If elected, I would advocate for increased funding opportunities such as scholarships, bursaries, and programs that reduce financial barriers. I would also push for stronger, more accessible mental health resources and initiatives that raise awareness and reduce stigma.

I plan to stay connected with students through open discussions and meetings to ensure students' voices guide my priorities. I would bring these concerns forward to the UWSA and the University, and work towards developing meaningful solutions. My goal is to make sure affordability and mental health aren’t just talked about, but addressed with concrete action.

  • In my role as FAHSS Representative, I would approach accountability, transparency, and fair-decision making with intention and priority.

I want students to feel informed, rather than disconnected, from decisions being made that will impact them. Seeking feedback and input from the students that I represent is extremely important to me, as representation should solely be guided by direct student voices. I am always approachable and willing to engage in supportive discussions. I believe that students deserve to know why decisions are made and how they will be affected by them. I intend to make myself accessible to answer any questions my peers my have, by creating opportunities for feedback through convsersations and collaboration.

I will always ensure that any position or stance I take fairly reflects a broad range of perspectives, and benefits our students as a whole. As a representative, I am dedicated to serving in this role with honesty and a focus on students' interests.

  • I believe that student governance has an immense impact on the student experience at the University of Windsor.

In my view, effective leadership means listening to students, acting on their concerns, and making sure their voices shape decisions that will affect their academic life and campus experience. Through my leadership roles on campus, I have learned that leading is about taking action, collaborating, and creating spaces where students feel heard. I am motivated to run for this position because I have seen how true and committed representation can lead to positive change.

I hope to make a lasting impact on the UWSA and the broader student community. I plan to bring ideas to the table, evaluate policies, and connect students with the resources they need to succeed. I want to ensure student governance at UWindsor is meaningful and truly focused on students.
