Representative, Senate Student

Matthew Najem

  • As a Business and Political Science student, I bring a perspective that balances practical decision-making with an understanding of how policy impacts people. My academic  background has trained me to think critically, analyze financial and organizational issues, and find solutions that benefit everyone involved. At UWSA Board meetings, I plan to use this mindset to advocate for students by promoting  transparency and accountability in all decisions. I want to ensure that financial discussions are grounded in fairness and that resources are used to directly improve the student experience. I also plan to bring a collaborative approach to the table that recognizes the importance of connecting students from every faculty. My goal is to make sure every voice is represented and that the Board’s decisions reflect the diverse needs of our campus community.

  • Two major issues I believe students face right now are financial pressures and limited campus engagement. Many students are concerned about the overall value of their education and want to see resources used in ways that directly improve their experience. Others are looking for more opportunities to connect with their peers and feel part of a stronger campus community. As a Student Senator, I will advocate for greater transparency in financial decisions and clearer communication between the university and students. I will also support initiatives that encourage collaboration across faculties and enhance campus life by promoting events and programs that bring people together. By addressing both the financial and social sides of student life, I aim to create a more unified and supported campus where  every student feels their voice matters.

  • Accountability begins with open communication. As both a Student Senator and a member of the UWSA Board, I will work to keep students informed about what is being discussed and how decisions will affect them. I plan to regularly seek input from students across faculties and communicate updates in a clear and accessible way. Transparency also means being honest about how policies are developed and how student feedback is considered in the decision-making process. I will ensure that all decisions I support are based on fairness and serve the student body as a whole, not just one group. My approach is simple: listen carefully, act responsibly, and represent students with honesty and respect.

  • The UWSA Board of Directors should serve as the link between students and the university, ensuring that student concerns and priorities guide campus decisions. The Board’s role  goes beyond administration; it is about building a campus where students feel heard, supported, and inspired to get involved.
I want to be part of this work because I believe in the power of student leadership to create real change. The Board has the ability to shape transparency, event culture, and collaboration between faculties, which all contribute to the UWindsor experience. I want to help strengthen that foundation by making the UWSA more open, student-driven, and representative of every voice on campus. For me, this position is an opportunity to lead  with purpose and help build a university community that works together.
