U-Pass Vote 2019

About U-Pass

The UWSA, OPUS, and GSS provide a universal student bus pass (U-Pass) for all students. At the affordable price of $66 per semester and unlimited rides during the school year on Transit Windsor buses (with the exception of the Tunnel Bus), your U-Pass is basically the key to the city! Simply tap your card on the readers upon boarding the buses and you’re ready to explore.

Our U-Pass program is one of the few in Canada that allows you to opt out! Learn more about opting-out here. Considering the outcome of the 2019 U-Pass Referendum, a new opt-out option may become available: if you own a UWindsor Parking Pass and are listed as the primary driver, you will be able to opt-out, to a limit, on a first come first serve basis.

U-Pass Benefits

Saves Money

A regular Transit Windsor pass costs $66 per month, that’s $528 for one academic year. With the U-Pass, you’re saving 4 times that amount by contributing only $66 a semester! That’s almost $400 back in your pocket! In today’s world time is money; what’s the longest you’ve driven around campus trying to find parking? When using transit, you eliminate the hassle of endlessly searching for a spot.

Community

This is a student-focused service that helps build a progressive community! All U-Pass funds are reinvested back into the program, helping to create new and improved services for all riders. Cultivating a stronger transit presence makes Windsor a greener place to live! With fewer drivers on the road and more riders on the bus, we’re doing our part to reduce the carbon footprints of both UWindsor and the Rose City.

Accessibility

Riding transit is inclusive of all abilities, giving everyone the opportunity to use their U-Pass. It also gives everyone the opportunity to explore their city! Windsor is beautiful, get out and see for yourself! Use the Transit App to navigate to the best view of the Detroit skyline at Malden Park, or enjoy the nightlife in any of our vibrant neighbourhoods. Discover what’s around you in a safe and secure method of mobility!

Vote YES on March 20 & 21

The UWSA is bringing forth a referendum to continue the universal bus pass (U-Pass) on a permanent basis, and we encourage you to VOTE YES. Throughout the pilot project, students have voiced their respective needs and feedback on how to improve the service. The UWSA, in partnership with Transit Windsor, are proud to say we heard you!

You Spoke Up. We Heard You.

Thanks to ongoing student feedback, below are just some of the victories the U-Pass program has achieved since it began in 2016.

WE HEARD YOU need more opt-out options. Considering the outcome of the 2019 U-Pass Referendum, if you own a UWindsor Parking Pass and are listed as the primary driver, you will be able to opt-out, to a limit, on a first come first serve basis.

WE HEARD YOU needed extended service from the University, so we improved the Transway IC to run every 10 minutes during the day on weekdays. Now students are connected to the rest of the city faster than ever.

WE HEARD YOU needed instant information on active routes, so we stepped up our tech game! With the launch of the Transit App, riders now have access to reliable and real-time updates on planned routes. We’re also in the development stages of providing instant web and text messaging notifications too!

WE HEARD YOU needed a convenient way to visit friends and family out of town, so we created a direct route to Via Rail on weekends.

WE HEARD YOU like to party! So, we opened a late night bus service 3 nights per week from Downtown to UWindsor.

WE HEARD YOU thought our bus shelters needed an update, so we invested in building new ones with a more modern feel.

WE HEARD YOU have more ideas to improve your U-Pass experience, so Transit Windsor created a 943K budget dedicated to annual service enhancements.
